Late Stage Lyme Disease Treatment
Written by Dr. Diane Mueller
Late stage Lyme Disease Treatment really depends on how complicated the situation is.
For some people the symptom picture of late stage Lyme Disease resembles ALS, MS, Parkinson’s Disease and Alzheimer’s. For others it may be severe pain and chronic fatigue that is so bad that life has completely fallen apart.
Perhaps the most confusing thing about late stage Lyme Disease treatment is that there is not one clear path forward. For many people, there is so much organ and hormonal dysfunction, that the individual does not have the immunological strength to fight Lyme even with the best drugs or herbs. In these situations, people may need to focus on healing the gut and on giving thyroid and adrenals support. For others, balancing testosterone, estrogen, and progesterone can be life changing and give the body the support it needs to actually fight Borrelia (the bacteria that causes Lyme Disease).
Have Lyme Disease or suspect you do?
So where do you start with late-stage Lyme Disease treatment? The first thing for many people is thorough testing. Testing can include:
- Full thyroid panel
- Tick-born panel (to look for other insect-born infections)
- Nagalase- to look for evidence of a chronic hidden viral infection
- Adrenal profile
- Sex hormone profile
- Gastrointestinal work up: SIBO and functional stool culture
- Toxic metals
- Nutrient Deficiencies
- Mitochondrial function assessment
- Mold toxins
- MARCoNS
- And More depending upon your situation
Late stage Lyme Disease treatment is not just about treatment of Lyme. It is about restoring balance and treating all of the dysfunctional areas that may have arisen due to having the Borrelia infection for so long. Many times when someone has late stage Lyme Disease, jumping into immediately killing Borrelia may be too much for their body to handle.
For some people, it can be better to start with giving things such as myrrh, choline and tudca to support the liver and detoxification system. Some people using devices such as near infrared light (for detox and mitochondrial support) can help prepare the system for the killing phase of Borrelia treatment.

Sometimes herbs work better than antibiotics. Other times antibiotics work better than herbs. It really depends upon what your system allows you to tolerate. If you find yourself easily reacting to herbs and drugs when it comes to the killing stage of Borrelia, it may be best to start with a workup of the tests mentioned above. Focus on repairing the gut and building up any nutrients that you are deficient in. Sometime reactivity occurs because other over all toxic burden that the individual is facing. When you start repairing one area of the body, it can take pressure off the whole system. As you start peeling away and addressing the layers of dysfunction, you may find that you can begin to tolerate a treatment strategy that you were not able to tolerate in the past.

“Dr. Mueller’s approach to medicine is refreshing! There is only so much you can do with western medicine and in my life I was needing a new approach. By addressing the whole body, nutritional diet factors, environmental factors, blood work, and incorporating ideas I had not previously known, I was able to break through with my conditions. I am not only experiencing less pain in my life, but through the process of healing guided by Dr. Diane Mueller, I am now happy to say I have more consciousness surrounding how I eat, what to eat and when things are appropriate. Living by example Dr. Mueller has a vibrancy that makes you want to learn and know more about your body and overall health. I highly recommend her to anyone looking for new answers, a new approach to health, or in need of freedom from pain and limitations.”
